About

Bradford Council, BD: is LIT local commission

Listening Lights combines light, sound, and storytelling. Inspired by the Japanese Wind Phone, where people continue conversations with loved ones who have died, this thoughtful installation invites participants to step inside a softly illuminated, soundproof telephone booth and speak words of love, memory, and celebration into a telephone handset.

From the outside, speech patterns transform into shifting colours, light and sound, symbolising voices carried into the night.

Inclusive and accessible, Listening Lights offers a space for reflection, remembrance, and connection. Intended for people who have experienced loss, whether recent or long past, across all ages, genders, ethnicities, and faiths.
